It was dawn for the lightsabers Obi Wan Kenobi Finale when Ewan McGregor was back in his robes and doing what he does best. Another duel between Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) and his former master, it wasn’t a fiery showdown on Mustafar, but it’s still reminiscent of the original George Lucas trilogy.
Things have been neatly wrapped up with a loop, leaving us to wonder if the grey-haired Jedi Master is destined to say hello there one more time, or if the story will be left alone until Sir Alec Guinness’s version arrives 1977 film takes the stage.
Even though Star Wars: A New Hope means we all know how things end between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan, which hasn’t stopped Deborah Chow’s six-part miniseries from filling in the gaps between Lucas’ original trilogy and the divisive prequels.

Warning: Spoilers for Obi Wan Kenobi ahead
What happened in the Obi Wan Kenobi Final?
Knowing that Vader’s quest for revenge would lead the Empire away from the fleeing Jedi, Obi-Wan left Leia in the care of Kumail Nanjiani’s Haja and flew off to face his former apprentice once more (we know it won’t be that way ).
The pair settled on a rocky planet, and after Obi-Wan assumed his signature lightsaber stance, there was another fight for the ages. It only took him 10 years, but Anakin finally made it to the high ground and seemingly buried Obi-Wan alive.

With the fate of Luke and Leia driving him forward, Obi-Wan freed himself and hacked Vader to size. mirroring of rebels In the season 2 finale between Darth Vader and Ahsoka, we saw the Chosen One’s helmet cut open and see through what little remains of Anakin Skywalker.
There was the somber realization that the rest of Anakin had been consumed by the dark side. Elsewhere, Reva was haunted by memories of the Order 66 massacre and what Anakin had done to her, meaning she was unable to kill a young Luke Skywalker on Tattooine.
If dangling plot threads for Reva to take on “The Path” and join the other outcasts weren’t enough to warrant a second season, then what about the stunning (but expected) cameo of Qui-Gon Jinn’s Force Ghost? With Liam Neeson’s words of wisdom echoing through Obi-Wan Kenobi, many expected Obi-Wan’s own master to appear before the credits rolled.
The show ended with a cryptic tease from Qui-Gon, who said, “Come on, we still have a long way to go.” If that doesn’t set up Season 2…it doesn’t do anything.
Will there be a second season of Obi Wan Kenobi?
in the Vengeance of the SithMaster Yoda told Obi-Wan that Qui-Gon had returned from the “Underworld of Force” and found a way to live beyond death.
This set a precedent for everyone from Yoda to Luke and Obi-Wan to appear as Force Ghosts throughout the franchise’s history. Qui-Gon Jinn didn’t appear in the original trilogy, but jumps ahead Rise of Skywalkerand Jinn was one of the many Jedi voices who spoke to Rey in her final confrontation with Emperor Palpatine.

There are 44 years between the events of Obi Wan Kenobi and Rise of Skywalker, and even for a ghost, that’s a lot of time for Qui-Gon to sit and do nothing. The final scene suggests Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon have more work to do, but Disney needs to be careful it doesn’t start grappling with the normally watertight canon of the galaxy far, far away.
Despite fears it would break the canon Kenobi Finale did a solid job of establishing how Luke Skywalker met “Old Ben” before a New Hope – even introducing his T-16 Skyhopper toy.
Looking at the cold facts Obi Wan Kenobi more than warrants a second run. The series premiere broke Disney+ records as the most-watched of all time, and with the dollar signs in Kathleen Kennedy’s eyes, it would be foolish to let the spin-off go.
The franchise’s emperor has echoed that, with Kennedy telling Entertainment Weekly, “It’s certainly something we’re talking about.” McGregor is also on board with the idea, telling Radio Times, “I hope it’s not the last that I play him. I hope I do it again. I would like to do it again.
I mean, I had so much fun doing it, I’m sure we can come up with a few more stories before I turn into Alec Guinness. Do not you think?”
Still, Kennedy is a bit more realistic, saying what most fans are thinking: “We really need to spend our time asking ourselves, ‘Why would we do that? If we decided to do more with the Obi-Wan character, we’d really have to answer the question of why.”

The coming weeks will be interesting because war of stars Shows tend to get the green light for another season quickly. Boba Fett’s book is a rare exception, but as this series comes with its own kettle-run ailments, a second season seems increasingly unlikely.
Does Obi Wan Kenobi Need a second season?
Chronologically, the next time Obi-Wan says his iconic catchphrase to anyone will be to a booing R2-D2 about 10 years later. Still, the last scene of Obi Wan Kenobi teased that he won’t just ride into the Dune Sea and live his best hermit life until Luke Skywalker seeks out Old Ben as Leia Organa’s “only hope”. if Obi Wan Kenobi gets a second season, it will have to move away from Luke and Leia to go to a new place.
It could also be argued that after most of Kenobi’s history, there is no need to revisit the twin suns of Tatooine.
Similar to how Din Djarin appeared in Boba Fett’s book, Kenobi could return to someone else’s world. Despite hating Reva actor Moses Ingram, there have been whispers that she could also direct her own live-action series on Disney+.
Another tantalizing prospect is to see Christensen back in a suit. The star has spoken openly about the love he received for returning to the role after the prequels got him dirty and how much he would love to come back for a standalone Vader. As for fans, Obi-Wan could spend the next decade dodging the Empire in the Dune Sea.
Obi-Wan pounding Tatooine hardly sounds like an exciting premise, but in a separate interview with Radio Times, Chow said, “I think it’s interesting just to watch him pound the sands sometimes. So who knows?”
