For years, tech companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Samsung have been telling us that the future of computing is in tablets, not laptops.

These companies produce tablets with a wide range of screen sizes, features, and prices. Some can be bought with detachable keyboards, others have handy stands, and many work with digital pens to unleash your inner artist.

Tablets are often lighter, thinner, and generally more portable and convenient than a laptop, with a wider price range and smartphone-based operating systems to make them easy enough for everyone to use.

When tablet computers come to mind, it’s easy to jump straight to the Apple Store and buy an iPad. And while, yes, the iPad range is bigger than ever – with prices ranging from just over £300 for the latest ninth-generation iPad (from £319, Apple.com) to over six times that for a full-featured iPad rich 12.9-inch iPad Pro (£2,149, Apple.com), there are plenty of alternatives too.

Companies like Lenovo, Samsung, and Microsoft all offer a range of tablets to choose from. If you don’t own Apple devices and aren’t in the company’s ecosystem, finding an alternative manufacturer can be a good idea – and might save you some money too.

There’s a modest £45 discount on the 128GB version of the latest iPad Pro at Currys, which should appeal to anyone unwilling to shell out nearly two grand for the 2TB model featured above. Similar savings exist on the 256GB and 512GB models if you need a bit more storage, but we’re big fans of spending less on device storage and more on cloud storage, especially if you have fast Wi-Fi.

At Currys you have the choice of a silver gray or gray iPad Pro. Both colorways offer slightly different discounts, so be sure to check out both before adding the tablet to your cart.
