I tried Old Navy matching outfits for humans and their furry friends

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m head over heels in love with my dog, Cooper. He’s a cheeky 2-year-old corgi who’s obsessed with playing ball and anything that tastes like chicken – plus he’s no stranger to a fashion photo shoot. While recently perusing Old Navy’s new arrivals, I stumbled upon a discovery that’s too important to keep: Old Navy has matching outfits for humans and their furry friends — and they’re ridiculously cute. Enter the Sleeveless Smocked Printed Linen Blend Maxi Shift Dress ($38, originally $45) and the Printed T-Shirt & Bandana Set ($10, originally $18), both of which feature the “Blue Gingham” Have retailer sample. Get my full review on the matching parts.

What I like about this maxi dress and set

The discovery of these matching sets was a happy coincidence. As I was checking out the new item in the retailer’s pet department, I noticed that the aforementioned printed t-shirt and bandana set was next to the pattern’s name, “Match the Fam.” From there, I searched “Blue Gingham” in Old Navy’s search box and found a ton Items populated including women’s tops and dresses, men’s shirts and also children’s goods. I was particularly drawn to this maxi dress for several reasons: not only is it the perfect summer print, but I’m also obsessed with linen and long dresses.

When I put it on in real life I was just as satisfied. The linen and viscose blend is lightweight, breathable and comfortable. The fit is airy (without looking or feeling oversized), which is a godsend in scorching temperatures. Considering all the elements of this dress, I think it’s the summer dress par excellence; one that’s both trendy (hello, hut core) and timeless.

Of course, we also have to address Cooper’s outfit. I love that it includes both a t-shirt and headscarf for $10. Although both parts are brought together in the marketing shots, I think I’ll choose one or the other so he doesn’t feel uncomfortable. I ordered a medium size (he is 32lbs FYI) on both the shirt and bandana and thought we made the perfect choice.

What is worth mentioning

I ordered this dress in my usual size medium and it fit my hips but felt a little big in the bust area. Other Old Navy buyers have mentioned that they had some sizing issues as well; A handful of reviewers mentioned that it was too tight in the hips or chest. If you can’t see yourself without this dress, you may want to buy two sizes to determine which one fits you best.

Another thing worth noting is that I would say this dress has more of a weekend vibe than a weekday vibe. It features a deep V-neckline and slits at the legs that some might not find appropriate for the office. But if you work from home like me, don’t worry!

One last note, this maxi dress also comes in a super chic neutral shade – the only downside is that the color doesn’t come in the doggie version.

Who are these pieces best for?

I think this maxi dress is best for the woman looking for a versatile summer dress that can be worn up or down. I paired it with my Old Navy Linen-Blend platform sandals ($40) and a matching mini tote, but I also think it would go well with sneakers or heels. And maybe it’s obvious, but the doggy t-shirt and bandana are best for puppies (or cats, maybe?) who don’t mind getting dressed for a day on the town.
